Cream of the Crop

I am currently enjoying some goodies we got from Baguio. Tottally addictive. Totally Yumminezz!

My hubby was smiling like a boy while holding the bucket of fresh strawberries. He found a pack of cream which he already chilled from the fridge. He added some honey on the cream and enjoyed this luscious equation! 

We went to Baguio last weekends.  It was a quick trip just to watch his superior attend the Grand Alumni Homecoming in Philippine Military Academy. It was so cool to finally see cadets on formation. They were so snappy. The alumni still looking regal after decades of being graduates. They were a picture of pride and honor. And the Vice President Jojomar Binay was also there to grace the prestigious event.

Even though it was just a quick trip, I didn't think twice to join. The journey was long and tiring, but as we get there, it was all worth it. I totally missed the place. Baguio is close to my heart, like a second home. I spent here my 25th birthday. Before my youngest Yael came in the family, we used to live in Benguet when my hubby was still on training. Its just like a 15 minutes travel to Baguio. We stayed there for three months. The clouds are like within your reach in that place. And we learned a lot during our stay. It was the first time where its just me, Mon and Aya. Just us, on our own, in a land far from our relatives, out of our comfort zone. It was a fruitful experience. I was a month pregnant when we got back in Bulacan. =D

Baguio is well known for its climate, scenic view, culture, fun-fantastic leisure parks, ukay-ukay and of course food! Unfortunately, Panagbenga is just a week away when we got there. Well there's always a next time. Aya enjoyed cycling and horseriding. And as usual the #camwhore! =D

And since most of the PMA alumni and their families were there, the traffic and the Good Shepherd Convent were jam packed! Good thing we were still able to get this sweetie which, as of now, is my favorite breakfast and merienda. Yael is now a full-pledge addict of this ube jam. Truly enjoying while it lasts!

Some Light Meal...

Last night after a fun, fun, fun first birthday celebration of Cailey (who happens to be my grand daughter pala!) at Sta. Maria, Bulacan, we decided not to eat dinner since we were still full from the buffet served from the party  Most of the dishes were meat-based and even after almost two hours of travel, we didn't feel any hunger.

But since I am breastfeeding, I might get hungry at the middle of the night so I've decided to eat at least a light meal. Hunting in the Kitchen, I found some baguette, cream cheese in the fridge and pack of instant crab and corn soup. I told my hubby and he made it a little request. A French Toast Baguette.


Honestly, that was the first time I made a french toast. Good thing, we have milk and eggs available in the fridge. Its like meant to be! =)

I just whisk the eggs and milk together, drizzle a little maple syrup, put the bread slices in the mixture then toss it in the pan. I'm super glad it tasted good!

Although my Aya was not that fond of it, he finished two bowls of the soup. My Yael loved it but I didn't let him eat too much since its almost ten in the evening already.

This Crab and Corn soup is a family favorite since time immemorial. We are also fond of Nido soup where I usually add some boiled quail eggs. Aya is sucker of these eggs. He fondly calls it "baby eggs". I have also tried to make my own version of crab and corn, using fresh ingredients. I add sliced crab sticks. Five sticks are good enough. I also shred some kernels of sweet corn. Two cobs will do. I added celery although my original plan was to use spring onions. But the celery was great. I forgot to take a picture of my version. Maybe next time. It was good but if you're in a rush, the ones in packs will do. =)

I love this cheese. Good thing Ate Fay brought some. We still got whole baguette. Expect more of french toast. =)

But this time I'll teach my brother and nephew how to do it. They liked it too!

The baguette will be great with salad too. You can get fresh greens, sliced fruit and left over chicken, toss them together and dig in. Clara Ole got different viands of dressings with a very affordable price. I think one tetra pack cost more or less thirty pesos.

Baguette, Salad, Soup and some wine. You can try make your own this coming Heart's Day for your valentine. Restos will be crowded anyway on this day. And you can also save a lot and not suffer with this day's fuzz and hassle. Anyway, all stuff with your personal touch will always be extra special.
